The Stone Tapes (Louise Webb & Greg Ireland)
The Stone Tapes is a Kent-based experimental sound and visual art collective formed by artist and curator Louise Webb, folk composer and sound artist Greg Ireland, and musician and producer Matt Dear.
Bringing together field recordings, original music, spoken word, moving image and digital experimentation, the collective explores the relationships between sound, memory, folklore and place. Its work draws attention to the histories and stories embedded within landscapes, buildings and communities - and to the ways they can be reimagined through contemporary technology.
The Stone Tapes has presented films and live events, including a programme for Creative Folkestone’s Last Fridays, and produces regular broadcasts for City Wall Radio. Its open-ended, collaborative approach creates a meeting point between folk culture and experimental art, treating traditions not as fixed records of the past but as material that can be sampled, retold and transformed.
